Melody of the Abyss - Profile [ WIP ]
Mar. 20th, 2015 09:17 pmName: Emil Castagnier
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Height: 5'6"
Body Type: Slender, though not muscular
Weapon of Choice: Longswords

Changes at a Glance:
- Emil ends up being Rem's isofon, even housing the aggregate sentience of the sixth fonon, Rem, within him as a separate personality from Emil himself. This is due to the result of the experiments that produced him and wrecked Aster's health.
- Emil is Aster's replica, instead of having taken his form as per his original canon.
- Bizarrely enough, Emil's alternate self has a completely different personality prior to the amnesia happening. More on that is covered in the Personality section.

History:
Emil's technical birthplace was Belkend, where a group of scientists working with the Vanguard - a private militia that, for all intents and purposes, wanted to free the world of Auldrant from the influence of the Score via overthrowing the Order of Lorelei - was doing research into fomicry as a method of producing soldiers for their army. And, as one might suspect, their research was not necessarily on the up-and-up.
Because of the taboo and the stigma that was associated with even considering fomicry research, the Vanguard's scientists would conduct their research using whomever they could find - in this case, vagrants and homeless people that no one would miss or even notice - to create the replicas they needed to eventually produce their much-needed militia, with varying degrees of failure. The continued lack of seventh fonons in these replicas needed to stabilize them would oft result in either dead replicas or failed, insane replicas that eventually had to be put down anyway. With time and resources quickly dwindling, the scientists got desperate, deciding to siphon and swindle money, manpower, and - most importantly - research subjects out of the other researchers in Belkend to continue their research.
Things went according to plan, until the day they decided to convince a fellow researcher and prodigy, Aster Laker, to help them with their little experiments.
On that day, several higher-ups and officials from the government, as well as several heads of the Vanguard, were in attendance for this experiment. Officially, it was to demonstrate how fomicry, if applied correctly, could be used for beneficial purposes like infrastructure repair. Unofficially, though, the researchers were planning to use the fonons of everyone present ( save their Vanguard colleagues, who would coincidentally be away on a tour of an unrelated facility ) as a Seventh Fonon supply to create the much desired replica soldiers they needed. And Aster's data was to be the basis for this prototype replica.
...if you were expecting this whole plan to go off without a hitch, then you fail mad science fiction forever.
During the actual replication process, the scientists ended up overcompensating for the lack of Seventh Fonons by supplying the fomicry machine with more Seventh Fonons than was needed, resulting in a replica that not only was unstable fonically, but also mentally. This went about as well as you'd expect - the replica, now being more predisposed to violence, went on a rampage throughout the facility, killing several of the researchers in the process. Oops. Then it escapes into the main hall with all the dignitaries and it just goes straight to hell from there. One of the dignitaries - a Seventh Fonist - got the brilliant idea to summon an aggregate sentience to dispel the replica with a well-aimed blast of fonons to obliterate it, while the remaining researchers tried to salvage the situation by trying to retake Aster's replication data from this prototype replica and destroy it with intentions to create another replica. Meanwhile, Aster himself had gotten free of the machine and was simply trying to get out of there and back to the Mathis clinic to warn them of what was happening.
As one would expect, poor Aster got caught in the middle of the crossfire and ended up nearly losing his life. The Seventh Fonist ended up summoning Rem in desperation, whose selfless nature drove it to protect Aster from the researchers. The researchers themselves ended up destroying the first replica, but thanks to the resulting interference and sudden overexposure to the Sixth Fonon the replication process went terribly.
. . . and this is the part where the entire facility explodes, going up in flames and killing several hundred, along with seriously injuring thousands more. Needless to say, the surviving Vanguard researchers were all caught and imprisoned.
However, no one expected to find another replica in the wreckage of the research facility - certainly not one as stable as it was, anyway. This replica in particular was unprecedented in that it had taken Aster's replicated data and merged with Rem's sentience, resulting in a new type of replica that had the ability to channel a certain fonon at will. Hastily, the higher-ups took this replica away for further research, marking all of the events leading up to its creation classified and releasing the official story that the replica had perished in the explosion.
Of course, it would only be a few days later that the higher-ups' research into the new replica would go nowhere - apparently, it had escaped in the confusion. Furthermore, all data and information on one of the attendees of the Vanguard's gathering - Emil Castagnier, from the town of Engeve - mysteriously vanished on the same day that the replica went missing...
Personality:
Special Abilities:
Emil's most useful special ability is his being able to communicate with and tame monsters - while in canon, this was due to his identity as Ratatosk, the Lord of Monsters, here in the Abyss timeline this ability is a result of the experiments that created him; his ability is a result of some programming into his replication data that was meant to offset the gaps in the incomplete data obtained from Aster. Emil thus can use this ability to summon monsters in battle to aid him, much like Arietta does; he's also able to use it for mundane tasks such as summoning a monster to use as his steed, helping him get food, act as training partners, etc.
